Thai authorities are actively working to ensure that Koh Samui takes its rightful place among the ten most desirable island destinations on the planet. This ambitious project was officially unveiled by the Minister of Tourism and Sports, Ms. Sudavan Wangsufakikosol, on April 8, 2024. In support of the initiative, Prime Minister Sretta Taweesin personally visited Koh Samui and Surat Thani, where he met with local communities to discuss key development areas.

 

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has expressed its determination to highlight the uniqueness of Koh Samui, including its rich culture and delicious cuisine, as part of its promotion strategy for the island.

 

In addition to this, the Prime Minister plans to propose the establishment of a cruise terminal as part of the strategic tourism development plan at the next cabinet meeting. The move is aimed at attracting high-end tourists and involves a cruise route connecting Singapore and Hong Kong via the Gulf of Thailand, with stops in Koh Samui and other key cities.

 

In addition, plans to expand cruise capabilities include the opening of new terminals in Phuket and Krabi, which will strengthen Thailand's position as a leading destination for sea travel.
