Free travel on Thai highways during Songkran

03.04.2024

As part of the celebration of Songkran, the Thai New Year, the government has decided to abolish tolls on key highways in the country. From April 11 to April 17, 2024, Highways 7 and 9 will be open to free travel, allowing travelers to move freely between cities this holiday period.

It is predicted that more than 5 million vehicles will use these roads, resulting in significant time and cost savings for citizens. Although the government will lose about 190 million baht in toll fees, the decision is expected to generate economic benefits that outweigh the losses.

Highway No. 7 connects the capital Bangkok with the popular resort city of Pattaya, while Highway No. 9 runs along Kanchanapisek Road, linking various areas and providing easy access to major destinations in the region. The decision underscores the government's commitment to facilitating travel during one of the nation's most significant holidays.
